London Harness Company is established.

1776

Operated by Zachariah Hicks, it is located at 38 Cornhill. The oldest business in continued operation in Boston, the saddlery and harness shop is purchased by employee Charles McBurney in 1833. He is later joined by trunk maker W.W. Winship, for whom the company is subsequently named. The company is acquired by J.R. Hill & Company (established in Concord, New Hampshire in 1847) in 1890, and assumes its current name in 1897. The shop moves to Elm in 1843, to Devonshire, to its current location at 60 Franklin in 1919.
